Website News — September 2026
Yes, it has been far too quiet in the NEWS section.
No, BANG! RECORDS has not been sleeping.
Quite the opposite.
Since our last update we have kept doing what we have always done: digging into the hidden corners of Australian, Seattle, Detroit, New York and European underground rock’n’roll, bringing essential records back to vinyl and giving lost or overlooked recordings the editions they deserve.
So here is some of what has been happening at BANG! while this page was silent…
BROTHER BRICK – “A PORTABLE ALTAMONT”, LP
At last on vinyl!
Originally released on CD in 1997, this monster of Australian high-energy rock’n’roll finally received its first vinyl edition, fully remastered.
Led by Stewart Cunningham — also known from PROTON ENERGY PILLS, ASTEROID B-612, LEADFINGER and THE YES-MEN — Brother Brick delivered a brutal combination of Detroit-style power, huge guitars and unmistakable Australian rock’n’roll attitude.
JEFFREY LEE PIERCE – “SIX STRING SERMON”, LP + BOOKLET
One of the most personal Jeffrey Lee Pierce releases in the BANG! catalogue.
Recorded in 1980, immediately before THE GUN CLUB recorded “Fire Of Love”, these primitive solo recordings find Jeffrey exploring the Mississippi Delta blues that obsessed him.
Raw, intimate and completely unique.
The deluxe vinyl edition also includes a 16-page booklet featuring previously unseen photographs and memories from friends and fellow travellers including Nick Cave, Mark Lanegan, Henry Rollins, Kim Salmon, Kid Congo Powers, Tex Perkins, Spencer P. Jones, Steve Wynn, Tav Falco and many more.
TRULY – “FEELING YOU UP”, LP
The lost gem of Seattle returned to vinyl.
TRULY — Robert Roth, SOUNDGARDEN co-founder Hiro Yamamoto and SCREAMING TREES founding drummer Mark Pickerel — created something very different from the usual “grunge” formula.
“Feeling You Up” combines massive guitars, psychedelia, melody and darkness in one of the great overlooked albums to come out of Seattle in the 1990s.
A long-overdue vinyl reissue of a cult record.
(THE DWARVES) – THE SUBURBAN NIGHTMARE – “A HARD DAY’S NIGHTMARE”, LP
Before THE DWARVES became THE DWARVES, there was THE SUBURBAN NIGHTMARE.
Teenage garage-punk insanity from Highland Park, Illinois, recorded in 1985 and now back on vinyl in a limited edition.
Primitive, obnoxious and completely alive.
Exactly how it should be.
THE DRONES – “HAVILAH”, 2LP
Another essential chapter in our ongoing relationship with one of the greatest Australian bands of the last decades.
Originally released in 2008, “Havilah” catches THE DRONES at their most powerful, dark and expansive: Gareth Liddiard’s extraordinary songwriting surrounded by noise, blues, folk, tension and violent beauty.
Finally back where it belongs: on double vinyl.
TAXIDERMY GIRLS – “RTE 209 BLUES”, LP
Dirty New York rock’n’roll is alive and well.
TAXIDERMY GIRLS bring together musicians connected to JON SPENCER BLUES EXPLOSION (Jon Spencer himself is one of the band members), TELEVISION, MERCURY REV, SPEEDBALL BABY, FIVE DOLLAR PRIEST and WOOBLY ORGAN.
“RTE 209 Blues” is raw, noisy, blues-damaged underground rock straight out of NYC.
No polishing required.
THE DUBROVNIKS – “DUBROVNIK BLUES”, LP
Australian rock history back on vinyl.
Originally released in 1989, the debut album by THE DUBROVNIKS brought together musicians from the heart of the Australian underground, including James Baker and Boris Sujdovic from SCIENTISTS, THE BEASTS OF BOURBON, HOODOO GURUS….
Garage rock, punk, glam and pure rock’n’roll collide in an album which still sounds dangerous decades later.
THE CELIBATE RIFLES – “BLIND EAR”, LP
Another piece of essential Australian rock’n’roll archaeology.
Originally released in 1989, “Blind Ear” catches THE CELIBATE RIFLES stretching far beyond simple punk rock without losing any of their bite.
Remastered and back on vinyl, including two bonus tracks.
One of the great Australian guitar bands. Period.
BUNDLE OF HISS – “AUDIO DESIGN SESSIONS: 1987–1988”, LP
Now this one really belongs in the history books.
Before Seattle became “Seattle”, BUNDLE OF HISS were already there.
Recorded by JACK ENDINO in 1987–1988, these sessions feature musicians who would later appear in MUDHONEY and TAD, capturing the moment when punk, hard rock, noise and Sabbath-heavy guitars were mutating into something the rest of the world would soon discover.
The tapes survived.
BANG! put them on vinyl.
THE HYDROMATICS – “EARTH IS SHAKING”, LP
Scott Morgan.
Kent Steedman.
Tony Slug.
Detroit. Australia. Amsterdam.
High-energy rock’n’roll.
Originally released in 2007, “The Earth Is Shaking” finally received its FIRST-EVER VINYL EDITION.
Powered by Scott Morgan of THE RATIONALS / SONIC’S RENDEZVOUS BAND, Australian guitar legend Kent Steedman of THE CELIBATE RIFLES, and Amsterdam’s Tony Slug, this is a true international collision of Detroit soul, Australian high-energy rock and European garage punk.
Rock’n’roll made by people who actually lived it.
THE HYDROMATICS – “POWERGLIDE”, LP
And one Hydromatics LP was not enough.
Originally released in 2001, “Powerglide” is Scott Morgan and company at full voltage: hard, soulful, streetwise rock’n’roll with the Motor City running through its veins.
Back on vinyl through BANG! RECORDS.
OBLIGACIONES – “IWO-JIMA PARTY”, LP
OUT NOW!
And this one is close to home.
Originally released only on CD in 2005, “Iwo-Jima Party” was the fourth album by OBLIGACIONES from Vitoria-Gasteiz.
Ten songs sitting somewhere between punk, garage, 1970s hard rock and savage rock’n’roll, with echoes of MOTÖRHEAD, CICATRIZ, THE NEW CHRISTS and the hardest side of the Basque underground.
Twenty years later, it still sounds furious.
BANG! RECORDS now presents “Iwo-Jima Party” ON VINYL FOR THE FIRST TIME.
Newly remastered.
We are not reissuing it because it was famous.
We are reissuing it because it should have been.
AND COMING VERY, VERY SOON…
MR. EPP – “RIDICULING THE APOCALYPSE”, LP
Before GREEN RIVER.
Before MUDHONEY.
There was MR. EPP.
Mark Arm’s first band finally receives the vinyl document it deserves.
Originally issued on CD in 1996, “Ridiculing The Apocalypse” collects the primitive, sarcastic, abrasive sound of a band operating in Seattle before anybody outside Seattle cared.
Punk, noise, hardcore, bad jokes and the beginnings of something that would become very important a few years later.
FIRST-EVER VINYL EDITION.
Remastered for vinyl.
Limited edition of 500 copies.
Coming very soon on BANG! RECORDS.
THE DRONES – “I SEE SEAWEED”, 2LP
And THE DRONES return once again.
“I See Seaweed”, originally released in 2013, remains one of Gareth Liddiard and company’s darkest, most ambitious and devastating records.
Eight long, intense songs moving from near silence to enormous explosions of noise, with some of Liddiard’s finest writing running through the whole thing.
BANG! RECORDS brings it back in a new 2026 limited repress:
DOUBLE LP.
GATEFOLD SLEEVE.
150-GRAM VINYL.
ONLY 500 COPIES.
Coming very soon.
SO YES — THE NEWS PAGE WAS QUIET.
BANG! RECORDS was not.
More vinyl. More lost records. More Australian noise. More Seattle dirt. More Detroit rock’n’roll. More records that should exist.
And there is plenty more coming.
Stay tuned.
